Mr Joel Mphela brings over 22 years of cumulative experience in Development Finance Institutions, Investment Banking, and Non-Executive Director and Board memberships. He has successfully managed investment teams and professionals, focusing on investments, strategy development and execution.
His expertise spans various areas, including Capital Markets, Infrastructure Finance, Corporate Finance, and Mergers & Acquisitions. Mr Mphela has held several key roles, including Acting Divisional Executive for Venture Capital and Corporate Finance, Fund Manager, Investment Principal, Vice President, Analyst, and Consultant. He has worked with prominent organisations such as Absa Capital/Barclays Investment Bank, Standard Corporate Merchant Bank (SCMB), Bridge Capital, and London Trust Research.
Mr Mphela has concluded deals across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, construction, retail, recycling, financial services, agro-processing, mining support services, property, student accommodation, social and affordable housing, and hospitality.
In terms of academic qualifications, Mr. Mphela holds a master’s degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch. He also completed the Management Advancement Programme at Wits University and obtained a BCom in Business Finance and Accounting from the same institution. Additionally, he has pursued various certificates in corporate finance, private equity products, corporate governance, the New Companies Act, tax implications, PMFA, GAAP, and King III.
