Mr Stemela has a BCom in Economics and Finance and extensive experience as an investment professional, he brings a wealth of knowledge and strategic insight to the role of Divisional Executive for Strategy, Planning and Significant Investments.
Prior to his appointment, Mr Stemela previously held the position of Strategic Projects Fund (SPF) Manager, where he played a pivotal role in advancing the NEF’s initiatives to develop black industrialists nationwide. In this capacity, he represented the NEF at the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition's (dtic) Black Industrialist Financing Forum. Additionally, he was instrumental as the NEF’s Project Manager for the Economic Recovery Fund, launched in collaboration with the dtic and the Industrial Development Corporation in response to the social unrest that affected parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal in July 2021.
Mr. Stemela began his career in 2009 as part of the graduate program at Deloitte Consulting, where he started as an Analyst and was later promoted to Consultant within the Strategy and Innovation team. Two years later, he joined the NEF as an Investment Analyst in the iMbewu Fund, where he quickly rose to the position of Senior Investment Associate. He subsequently transitioned to the SPF, initially in a similar role, before taking the lead as head of the specialist fund. He has also served as a board member of Rhino Ridge Lodge and Tala Game Reserve, two key investments within the NEF’s tourism portfolio.
As the Divisional Executive for Strategy, Planning and Significant Investments, Mr. Stemela oversees the Strategy and Planning Department. His responsibilities include portfolio management, performance tracking of the loan and equity book, risk assessment of the portfolio, and impairment tracking, among other critical functions.
