KEY focus for Tourism Month is to highlight tourism empowerment initiatives that have helped transform the lives of communities, while providing an exceptional experience for tourists and visitors, alike. One such project is Jozini Tiger Lodge & Spa. Incredibly positioned along the banks of the picturesque Lake Jozini and backed by the splendour of the Lebombo Mountain range in northern KwaZulu-Natal, Jozini Tiger Lodge & Spa has been built on the very premise of community. Boasting superb facilities including a Mangwanani spa,-gym, rim-flow swimming pool, exceptional dining experiences and extensive conference and banqueting facilities, the lodge provides a wide range of activities for all ages. The mere location of the property allows you to explore the northern parts of the province — from local game parks such as Hluhluwe-iMfolozi and Pongola Game Reserve, to the world famous dive sites of Sodwana and Kosi Bay and the opportunity to catch one of the most exciting fresh-water game fish to be found in KZN waters, the Tiger Fish. Opened in March 2010, Jozini Tiger Lodge & Spa was built on an old hotel site which had closed down some 30 years earlier. Through the involvement of the local community and the National Empowerment Fund, a community trust was established to ensure they benefited from the building on their land. This resulted in community members becoming shareholders in the new lodge.
