Underinvestment in Africa's infrastructure is providing investment opportunities that Ronnie Ntuli, the former chairperson of the National Empowerment Fund, is taking advantage of through Thelo Rolling Stock, a joint venture with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). Ntuli is the CEO of Thelo Group, an investment group that is also the BEE partner of airline company Comair. “For us as a business, we thought infrastructure was a huge opportunity, and the two areas that were interesting were energy and transport,” said Ntuli. Africa is still largely dependent on the movement of mineral resources and “if you interpret that, then you will find the best way to move goods is rail. We need to invest in the railway sector.
