When Tata Alfred started his business in the Johannesburg township of Thokoza in 1992, it was not because of a grand ambition to become wealthy. He had been recently retrenched from his job in the mines and saw little prospect of finding a job, so he decided to use his severance cheque to start a tiny business. by Sithabile Mkhizo www.succeed.co.zo The growth of his business was painstakingly slow, moving from transporting stock with a bicycle to a rickety truck, selling liquor without a permit and dodging police raids and finally getting the permit in 2009. In 2011 he incorporated an accounting software that helps him include tills and manage stock more easily.
