Depressed rural areas are the focus of many small business initiatives.
ith so many rural people living in poverty, it is in these areas that national and provincial government is looking to support start-up businesses and cooperatives. The Comprehensive Rural Development Programme is often at the centre of these initiatives. A number of rural initiatives in 2012 were led by the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA). The Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT) reported in 2012 that the National Development Agency (NDA) had made funding to the value of R45-million available for projects in the province.
