/ ESSENTIAL SUPPORT CRITICAL stakeholders like the media and some in government need to do more to understand the essentiality of black economic empowerment (BEE). The obligation is with many black people in the media who seem to miss the point that it is a major developmental issue. Let me stress that black.commentators in radio, TV and print provide critical insights into the debate of the day but all, if not most, lack this understanding of BEE being the most critical agent for transformation. Last Thursday, I had a depressing experience on SAFM when discussing my last column in which I argued how the current business environment militates against BEE. I will not mention the interviewer's name as it is more about the principle rather than the person. In any case, the interviewer was also following up on an intervention by a black caller who said black people are to blame as they do not use opportunities that.come their way I will call this caller “Uncle Tom”.
