Black business must be able to participate in major contracts THE Black Business Council (BBC) has sharpened its lobbying arsenal with a R3m grant from the National Empowerment Fund (NEF), which was unveiled yesterday amid tough talk. Unveiling the grant, NEF CEO Philisiwe Buthelezi said the BBC represented a critical voice of black business and professionals which had somewhat been missing in major debates including the nationalisation question. “The BBC must be commended for being vocal, visible and active in seeking to change the economic status quo. The concern that we all must have however, is that both individually and collectively, black professionals, and women in particular, are largely unheard and lamentably silent on the many strategic issues that confront our nation”.
