African Basket Philisiwe Sibiya

African Basket is a 100% black women-owned and managed food retail business that provides premium African food products to wholesalers, major retailers, and walk-in customers.

The company is managed by a qualified and experienced management and technical team with a combined 75 years’ experience in retail management, production, distribution and marketing of food and beverages.

African Basket currently has 16 stores with the aim of affording franchisees an opportunity to own their own outlet.

The business employs 116 people on a full-time basis, 8 of whom are employed by the Alexandra branch.

The proprietor approached the NEF for a business loan of R10.9million for expansion purposes. African Basket strives to provide a sense of home for many migrant workers from around South Africa and the Diaspora, to bring comfort and a feel of home away from home.
