South Africa is geographically blessed. We have the longest coastline of the African continent. And we occupy the prime spot at the intersection of maritime east and west. Ours is one of the best ship supply and repair locations in the world – the Cape should be the Corner Cafe of the African coast. We have good basic port facilities, raw materials, good labour and sound expertise. Our communications are world class; our commercial and legal infrastructure is well-developed; our banking system is one of the best – everything is punting for us. So why is it that an estimated 80% of ships that pass us by each year don't call in and sample our wares?
