The whole of the Orange Farm community is to have a 10% stake in the 27 000 square metre the Eyethu Orange Farm shopping mall being built between Johannesburg and Vereeniging. The mall broke ground in July and is to open in September 2014 at a cost R400-million (about US$40-million). It is expected to transform the area into a growing central business district. Businessman Vusi Tshabalala conceived the mall nearly two decades ago, and has since convinced partners to join in on the venture, including David Lieberman of Stretford Land Developments. Also contributing to the project are property developers Flanagan & Gerard, and the local community itself.
