Target of 100 black industrialists in five years part of transformation push by government THE government has vowed to fasttrack the creation of black industrialists in the next five years as part of its “radical transformation” to boost broad-based black economic empowerment. Despite strides made in the past two decades on empowerment transactions, the government believes that economic transformation had been too slow and that new initiatives are needed to ramp it up. The director-general of the Department of Trade and Industry, Lionel October, told delegates at the Black Business Council (BBC) round table discussion on government's 100 Black Industrialists' development programme held in Sandton on Friday, that industrialisation was a major part of achieving the target of 100 black industrialists in years.
